Coyotes Acquire Cal O'Reilly From Predators

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired center Cal O'Reilly from the Predators in exchange for a fourth round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft. The trade is conditional upon O'Reilly clearing a medical examination. "We are very excited to bring Cal to our organization," said Maloney. "He is a young, highly skilled player who will help us at the center position. We look forward to having him in our lineup very soon." O'Reilly has appeared in five games with Nashville this season, collecting one assist and two penalty minutes. In 2010-11, he appeared in 38 games with the Predators, recording career highs in goals (6), assists (12) and points (18) in his first full season in Nashville. The 25-year-old recorded 56-197-253 and 70 PIM in 262 career regular season games with Milwaukee (AHL) from 2005-10. O'Reilly was drafted by Nashville in the fifth round (150th overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Coyotes Deal Nokelainen To Canadiens

The Coyotes have traded center Petteri Nokelainen and minor league defenseman Garrett Stafford to the Canadiens for center Brock Trotter and a seventh-round pick in next year's draft. Phoenix general manager Don Maloney announced the deal Sunday hours before his struggling team was to play the Ducks in Anaheim. Phoenix is off to a 2-3-1 start.

Canucks Get Booth From Panthers

The Canucks acquired left wing David Booth, center Steve Reinprecht and a third-round draft pick in 2013 from the Panthers on Saturday for forwards Marco Sturm and Mikael Samuelsson. Booth had 23 goals and 17 assists last season, the first time he has played all 82 games with the Panthers. He has one assist this season in six games.

Kings Acquire Legein From Flyers

The Kings have acquired forward Stefan Legein and a sixth-round draft choice in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Flyers in exchange for future considerations, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced on Wednesday. Legein, who turns 24 next month, is a right wing from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Last season he played for Adirondack (AHL) and Greenville (ECHL). Legein was originally selected by Columbus in the second-round (37th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He attended training camp with the Flyers this year and was assigned to Adirondack on September 25. Legein is expected to report to the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs.

Stars Acquire Nystrom From Wild

The Stars have acquired left wing Eric Nystrom from the Wild in exchange for future considerations. Nystrom, who cleared re-entry waivers Wednesday afternoon, had four goals and eight assists for the Wild during the 2010-11 season. The acquisition of Nystrom, who is in the second year of a three-year contract and has a cap hit of $1.4 million, will help keep the Stars above the salary cap floor when the team becomes healthy later this week.

Avalanche Acquire Newton From Ducks

The Avalanche have traded defenseman Kyle Cumiskey to the Ducks in exchange for defenseman Jake Newton and a conditional draft pick. Cumiskey had nine goals and 26 assists in parts of four seasons with the Avalanche. Newton, who was with Anaheim's AHL team in Syracuse, N.Y., will report to Lake Erie.

Leafs Obtain Steckel From Devils

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday evening that the club has obtained centreman David Steckel from the Devils. In exchange, the Devils will receive Toronto's fourth-round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The centreman led all NHL players in faceoff winning percentage (62.3%) in the 2010-11 season. Overall, he has placed in the top seven in faceoff winning percentage in each of his first four full NHL seasons. Steckel, 29, was selected in the first round, 30th overall, by the Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
